Batik is a process of was resisting. The was is either printed or painted on the surface in the required design/motif and then dyed in various steps.
Overview of Techniques involved
1. Sourcing and Transporting raw materials and raw material preparation
- Wax, fabric, dye stuff
- Tools and instruments
2. Preparing the wax & design
- The finalized design is first transferred onto the base fabric.
- The wax is then prepared for use.
3. Waxing process
- Depending on the number of colors, the waxing is first done on the area that needs the lightest shade.
4. Dyeing process
- After one color area is blocked the fabric is dyed to the next shade.
- Steps 3 & 4 are continued for as many colors required.
5. Washing
- After all the colors are completed the fabric is then washed in hot water to remove all the was and put to dry.
6. Finishing
- The fabric is then ironed or stretched dried, folded and packed.
