Spinning is a process of drawing out yarn from a mass of fibre either of fibre either manually of with the use of a machine. All fibers like silk, cotton, wool etc need to be spun to make a yarn.
Overview of Techniques involved
1. Sourcing and Transporting raw materials and raw material preparation
- Fiber
- Tools and instruments
2. Preparing the fiber
- The fiber has to be separated well, deseeded, carded, combed etc before being taken up for spinning.
3. Spinning
- Then the spinning is done either using a spindle.
- Or by hand operated machanisms like the charkha
4. Plying/Twisting
- Depending on the required thickness 2 or more of the spun yarns are them twisted/plied together to form a single yarn.
5. Hank Making
- The twisted yarns are then made into hanks and stored for later use.
6. Product finishing
- The products are then lastly trimmed and its edges finished, thus completing it.
