There are different types of grasses used in different states. In UP it moonch grass, in Bihar it is sikki grass, in West Bengal it is madhur grass for making mats, in Orissa it is golden grass. In Kerala, Tamil Nadu etc it is grass mats are commonly used. Pandanas or screwpine in Kerala and sheetal pati in Wet Bengal are woven into matting.
