Boat making and cart making have evolved over centuries. Wood is used mainly,along with rope and iron. Many of the Indian festivals, large constructions of impermanent nature are required to be built which use miscellaneous media, including floweres and leaves.
Overview of Techniques involved
1. Sourcing and Transporting raw materials
- Wood
- Coir, synthetic rope, twine
- Various hand tools
2. Plywood bending
- Mild heat treatment to bend the wood and shape it
3. Hand joining of planks
- All the additional planks are hand joined.
4. Hand stitching/attachment of coir bundles
- Bundles of choir hand stiched with coir between the wooden planks
5. Hand hammering/tightening
- The coir is pulled and tightened manually from the outside surface.
6. Manual hole making
- Once the carving is done, the finishing and polishing is done and the product is done.
