Block making is essentially a very intricate form of wood carving to produce blocks that are used in the printing process.
Overview of Techniques involved
1. Sourcing and Transporting raw materials and raw material preparation
- Coir
- Various hand tools
2. Design Sketching/Tranferring and engraving
- The Design is hand engraved along the design pattern that is first transferred onto the block.
3. Design drawing
4. Metal sheet attachment
- In some cases a metal sheet is pressed onto the design and hammered onto the design surface.
5. Manual checking
- Then the blocks are manually checked to ensure that the design surface is even.
